Question: Best Cover? What's the Best Cover of a book you've read and didn't like?
Bunheads

Bunheads by Sophie Flack. Not saying this is my favorite cover ever or that this is the worst book ever. But not only is the cover beautiful, it also conveys that this is a book about ballet. And the cover also captures what has drawn millions of little girls to ballet, including me. That in ballet, you get to be a beautiful princess on stage. But the book...just so disappointing. Not bad, but I thought it would enable me to take a walk down memory lane. Which I couldn't because the main character, who is on the verge of obtaining the dream of every girl who has ever donned a tutu, is coming to the realization that she hates dance. So ballet is portrayed as a life/youth/soul stealing thing. And the ending was just awful.

  1. Ohh, I've heard about that book. I'm sorry you didn't like it. ): The cover is very interesting, though!

    1. I need to see the "Bunheads" TV show, though. The TV show isn't related to the book- which is good. But I've heard the TV show is great.

  2. I've never read Bunheads--the plot wasn't all that appealing to me--but the cover IS really pretty!

    1. I think unless you took ballet, the book wouldn't be a good read. The author throws in a lot of ballet terms- like the actual technical terms for ballet moves- without describing what the words mean. No glossary, even. Not that a glossary would make it better because I think for a lot of them a video would be better and because I find it annoying to flip back and forth between the text and a glossary.

Thanks for visiting and following. I love your FF choices. One of the books you chose had such an amazing cover I want to own a physical copy of the book. And read it, of course! Following you through GFC.

    1. Thanks for following, following you via GFC. I really need to start watching this series. I don't watch a lot of TV, but I was really excited for this show. But with 3 kids, I don't get to watch anything I want until the kids go to bed. And then I'd rather read or blog.

  4. I have always admired that cover. Now that you say that in the book ballet is described as a soul sucking life style the ballerinas do look a little clone-like and suffocating lmao. Never noticed that until now.

    Good choice, though =D

    Thanks for stopping by mine!

    1. I loved ballet as a kid. My mom made me quit when I got to the point where I had to decide whether or not to go on the more "professional" training track. My mom didn't want me to do that and I wasn't willing to just do the regular route. So I stopped. (My mom made the right call actually. Smart Lady!) But I don't understand why the character felt she was missing out by doing ballet and not college. Don't get it, actually got angry. I mean, you can go to college at 25 or 30 when you get done with ballet or given it your best shot. But once you leave ballet- at that level- that door closes forever. And it just seemed like such a waste- throwing away all those years of training.

  5. Haven't read this book, but I'll take your word that it'll crush my ballet dreams. I do love the cover though. Very artsy. I saw it was made into a series too, but I never watched it. Maybe I'd give that a try before reading the book now. Thanks for stopping by my FF!

    1. The cover kind of reminds me of synchronized swimming. When they show it from above and they do the flower type shapes. Which I always thought was cool.

    1. Thanks for stopping by. I agree, I think most of the reviews I've seen of this book weren't good. I was just so excited to read a ballet book that I didn't even look at the reviews until I rated it on Goodreads.

  8. I can’t think of a bad book with a great cover but I can think of a great book with a bad cover – will that do?
I absolutely love Tom’s midnight garden and have read it many times but the cover is really disappointing.
The publishers have tried several different covers over the years but not one of them does justice to the story.

    1. We must have been "hopping" at the same time, because I was already following you. I was pretty sure I had because I love the name of your blog and remember it.

I don't know if you'd like Bunheads- unless you took ballet or dance. Plus the author was not a dancer herself- or it doesn't appear as if she is. So I don't think she captured it well.

    2. Hmm.. I may not want to read it then, I only dance after a couple of drinks!!!

      Thanx for visiting too

    1. Then this is not the book for you. I also read Crash by Nicole Williams because it had a ballet dancer on the cover. But there was pretty much no dancing- I think the MC mentioned it a few times. Disappointing, but it was a pretty good contemporary YA romance type book.

    1. Thanks for visiting. I'm following you, too. I noticed that quite a few people picked what you picked as a great cover, lousy book. I think I'll give the first book in the series another chance- when I'm in the mood- and that's it. If it doesn't appeal to me after all those attempts, it's time to just mark it DNF and move on. Especially since so many people are saying it's just so-so. I think my struggling with it probably means I'll think that too.

So, you wanted to read this book too? Did you take ballet? I feel cheated and really want to read a book about ballet, so if you know any that are great, let me know.

    1. Thanks for stopping by. You did the other FF question- best book. I thought about doing that one, but I think I find more great books because they have great covers. So it would have been a harder choice. I took the easy way out and did the best cover/worst book one. Easier because I have way less 1-2 star books than 3-5 star books.
