My Review:
I have mixed feelings about this book. Overall, it's a good summer read- cute, at times charming. On the other hand- just loathe the main character. This is the thing about cheating- it's not just the cheating itself that's horrible and hurtful. It's that cheaters have to lie- lie about everything: where they are, how they feel, etc. To be a cheater, you have to live a life of deception. I've always wondered, "Why?" What is the best case scenario? That you get the (cheating) guy or girl? Well, you're a cheater, too, so you have a relationship where both parties are cheaters. Nice foundation for a relationship- you definitely have a solid base of trust and honesty you can build upon for a long term commitment. (NOT!) Then you have her best friend Amanda- who takes the cheater back...so you have a cheater and a doormat.
Now, I must admit that the author must be a good writer if I found Clem- the lying, cheating, evil, skank of a character- somewhat sympathetic. And compelling enough to keep reading. I think it was as much that the secondary characters in the book- her mother, father, sister, and James and his father- were so great. I wanted to see how their characters developed- especially James and his father.
By the way, don't be a cheater like Clem or a doormat like Amanda. This seems like a reasonable response if someone cheats on you with your best friend: (Sorry for the poor video/sound quality- not my youtube post. Also, I'm giving you fair warning before you click- bad language)
