Feature and Follow (9)

Feature and Follow is hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read every Friday. Complete Rules and Instructions are here:

This week's question: Worst Cover? What's the worst cover of a book you've read and loved?

These are the two that come to mind. Because I recently read them. And because I do a feature called "I Hate This Book of The Month" and they were both "winners"

Something Like Normal
Something Like Normal won my "I Hate This Cover" of the month in June because I almost didn't read it. Thought it looked like a cheesy romance and decided not to read it based on the cover.

Otherkin (Otherkin, #1)

"Otherkin" was my "I Hate This Cover" runner up this month because, well, the cover makes it look like shifter erotica. Which is not my thing....Not that there's anything wrong with that. (Otherkin is a YA book)

While you're here, please check out one of my 3 current giveaways:

    1. Thanks for visiting. I really, really wonder who is in charge of approving book covers.

  2. Otherkin does look kinda weird. I probably wouldn't read it based on the cover.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Whoa, you are so right about the Otherkind. It's sort of creeps me out! I found it hard to believe that it looks like a YA process.

  4. Otherkin wasn't up to my liking too!

    1. The book (Otherkin) was actually pretty good. But the cover...I really wonder at who is responsible for approving it.

  8. Wow, good choices for both of these. Something Like Normal's cover definitely confused me after I read the synopsis, and the other one is just a little freaky. Thanks for dropping in! Returned the follow. :)

    1. The author of Something Like Normal- Trish Doller- actually contacted me after I posted my review on Goodreads. And she mentioned that she had seen my "I Hate This Cover" of the month post. But she thanked me for giving her book a chance and was sweet and gracious. One of the "good" authors.

  10. Not sure what I think of Otherkin LOL. I have one with a smexy guy on the ground with baby pigs???? Book covers need to say something about the story.

  12. Thanks for stopping by my blog, returning the favour!

These two covers certainly aren't the worst I have seen, but Otherkin looks kinda...cheap, to me. Lol. Can't think of a better word.

    1. Something Like Normal was a great read. Very emotional story of a soldier coming home from Afghanistan. Which isn't at all apparent from the cover. But I think it's one of the best realistic YA titles this year.

    1. I wouldn't say "Otherkin" was my favorite book of even 2012. But the difference between the awfulness of the cover compared to the book was huge. The book was actually pretty good.

  33. I've heard amazing things about Something Like Normal. Though it looks like a light contemporary, I've heard that it's much more than that. I have to agree, the cover is kind of cheesy.

    1. I agree- it looks like a light contemporary that's mostly a romance. But it deals with issues like PTSD. Which you don't get from the cover at all. I hope they change it for the paperback edition!
